These are the Ideal Healthy Waist Sizes for Men and Women to Avoid Heart Disease
Among the list of habits to form to protect from heart disease is maintaining a healthy waistline. However, this simple-sounding advice can confuse a lot of people. It’s hard to define a single health standard across all body types, but the Mayo Clinic has managed to form a consensus on healthy girth sizes.
For men, the waist should measure 40” or less. Men are considered overweight if their waist exceeds 40”.
For women, the waist should measure 35” or less. Women are considered overweight if their waist exceeds 35”.
If you’re on your way to reaching these numbers but haven’t quite hit the mark, take comfort in the fact that reducing your bodyweight by just 5–10% lowers your cholesterol, blood pressure, and risk of diabetes.
